Ngāti Kuia Solar & Battery Installation
Overview
This project involved the installation of a new solar and battery system for the Kaikaiāwaro Charitable Trust Board, a subsidiary of Ngāti Kuia, on Maungatapu Road in Pelorus, Marlborough.
Rowan Dron Electrical installed a 30 kW solar array and battery system, commissioned in mid-2026. The system was designed to generate enough power to cover most of the site’s electricity needs, while also providing backup power for critical operations during outages.
Scope of Work
Installation of a 30 kW solar array
Battery system installation
Integration with the site’s electrical system
Backup power setup for critical operations
Solar and battery delivery as part of a wider electrification project
Approach
The project required a practical and coordinated approach, with the solar and battery system installed to support both everyday electricity use and on-site resilience.
The work formed part of Ngāti Kuia’s longer-term electrification strategy, with a focus on reducing emissions, improving energy security, and future-proofing operations.
Outcome
The completed system will generate enough power to cover most of the site’s electricity needs and provide backup power during outages.
The project is one of 40 farms supported through EECA’s Solar on Farms demonstration fund and reflects Rowan Dron Electrical’s growing role in solar and battery installations across the region.
